Qiviut Headbands

Qiviut headbands are a new product by Nunavut Qiviut available as a limited release this year.  

We use the same 8 Nunavut Qiviut yarn colours and 3 designed as our qiviut toques, but in a qiviut headband!  They are made from 50/40/10 qiviut/superfine merino/silk yarn in natural and 7 dyed colours.  The Qilalugaq (beluga whale)  and Nanuq (polar bear) motifs are made with 30/60/10 Arctic Fox/superfine merino/silk yarn.  For the Umingmak (muskox) motif, we use midnight 50/40/10 qiviut/superfine merino/silk yarn, so we do not sell Umingmak headbands in the midnight base colour.  The band of the headband has two layers to provide extra warmth and comfort.

Nunavut Qiviut always recommends having merino in any qiviut headband design.  The merino adds memory to the qiviut to maintain its elasticity and the fit of the headband. The superfine merino complements the softness and warmth of Muskox qiviut and Arctic Fox. Nunavut Qiviut is the only company to make Arctic Fox yarn.

Nunavut Qiviut designs its own Arctic yarns and knit items locally and sustainably. These yarns are hand blended and gently processed. The yarns are available for sale to fibre artists and are used by Nunavut Qiviut to create beautiful and rare knit accessories. Each Nanuq Qiviut Headband is made individually on a hand powered knitting machine.

Adult size. One size fits most.  Limited quantities.  

Care instructions: hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent; squeeze gently to rid excess water; rinse in cold water; rid excess water and then press between a towel, and; lay flat to dry.
