Qilalugaq (Beluga) Pod Toque
Qilalugaq!!! An excited buzz goes through Kugluktuk and many Arctic communities when beluga whales are spotted in the nearby ocean.
Nunavut Qiviut introduces in 2024 a new knit hat inspired by a social and curious pod of beluga whales. The motif is a pod beluga whales in a repeating sinuous, abstract design.
Beluga whales are rare in Kugluktuk. A trip to Churchill Manitoba, the Beluga capital of the world, inspired this Nunavut Qiviut design.
Qilalugaq means Beluga whale in the Inuit language. This qiviut hat uses Nunavut Qiviut yarn. It features 50/40/10 qiviut/superfine merino/silk dyed in the base colour and 30/60/10 Arctic Fox/superfine merino/silk in the white beluga pod design. The band of the hat with the beluga motif has two layers to provide extra warmth and comfort.
