Luxury Yarn and Knitwear from Sustainable Arctic Fibre

Nunavut Qiviut Knits

Nunavut Qiviut has a vision of producing luxury knit accessories from the qiviut yarn we make, and to do all this in our Arctic community, or as close to home as possible.  We learned about hand powered knitting machines several years ago and have been perfecting our skills and designs since. Qiviut yarn knits well on hand powered knitting machines designed for lace yarns.

We would like to share some images of Nunavut Qiviut knit creations.  Because this fiber is so rare and pleasurable to wear we focus on creating fashionable designs available to consumers who already know how special this yarn is.  We sometimes mix colour or fibres and sometimes incorporate designs inspired by the authentic Inuit culture and environment where we live.  We avoid 'tourism' nicknack designs in our product and approach our designs through a more creative and cultured lens.

Lace Shawl Made of 50% Muskox Qiviut and 50% Silk.  We make these shawls from our 50% muskox qiviut: 50% silk yarn.  We have 7 colours of this Nunavut Qiviut yarn including natural.  The definition, drape, and shimmer of silk is combined with the outrageous softness and warmth of prime muskox qiviut.  These knit up easily and demonstrate the potential of this yarn.  The dimensions of the shawl are 45 cm x 150 cm.  We have made them in a variety of lace patterns.  Because the cost of this yarn is less expensive than 100% qiviut yarn, we can make larger knit pieces with the same cost of material.

Nunavut Qiviut also makes lace scarfs and lace infinity scarves.  These are primarily made from 100% muskox qiviut in a variety of colours.  We have also been experimenting with making them from 50% muskox qiviut: 50% silk.  This lace infinity is 12 cm by 180 cm in 100% natural colour muskox qiviut.

Hats and headbands have also been popular.  We make them from our 60% muskox qiviut:30% superfine merino:10% silk yarn and often use our Arctic Fox yarn as an accent colour.

Arctic Fox Scarf.   For this lace scarf we use Nunavut Qiviut 30% Arctic Fox: 60% superfine merino: 10% silk yarn. We use a pattern that looks like Arctic Fox footprints in the winter snow.  This scarf is about 16 cm wide and 125 cm long.  This scarf is a similar size as our 100% muskox qiviut lace scarf.
